• Shortest wait: uses real wait data where available, especially for GPs and NHS hospitals, and otherwise uses a waiting-time evidence score.

Access and inclusion metrics

• Disability friendly: built from disability access, mobility support, and accessibility evidence.
• Accessibility support: richer support signals such as step-free access or support arrangements when the evidence exists.
• Diversity / inclusive care: signals that a service works well with diverse communities or has inclusive-care evidence.
• Digital friendly: online access, digital communication, and easier digital interactions.

Quality and reassurance metrics

• Safety: a blended safety score using inspection and governance evidence.
• Family friendly: stronger support for families, carers, and in some cases children.
• Emotional support: more reassuring, gentler, or support-oriented care signals.
• Communication quality: clearer communication where HIMBY has enough evidence to score it confidently.

Specialist and capability metrics

• Best for children: paediatric suitability and family-support evidence.
• Complex case capability: how strong a service looks for more complex needs.
• Specialist depth: depth of specialist expertise for a niche area.
• Outpatient capability and inpatient capability: whether the service is stronger for outpatient or inpatient-style care.
• Emergency capability: whether the service appears stronger for urgent or emergency-style handling.

Waiting-time metrics in detail

• GP wait days: direct GP waiting-day estimates where they exist.
• Same-day access: services with better same-day appointment availability.
• Hospital RTT median: referral-to-treatment median wait where NHS hospital data is available.
• Within-standard rate: how often a provider stays within waiting-time standards.

Important: direct waiting-time data is strongest for GP and NHS hospital data. For some other service types, HIMBY may rely on evidence-based wait scores instead of literal comparable wait numbers.

Inspection and trust metrics

• CQC overall: overall regulatory rating.
• Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, Well-led: the main CQC domain ratings.
• Composite score: HIMBY’s combined high-level quality signal from available inspection and evidence inputs.

How to read these metrics

• Some metrics are exact measurements. Others are ranking signals built from multiple data points.
• Not every service type has every metric. HIMBY will often be more precise for some groups than others.
• If a metric is weak or unavailable for a service type, HIMBY should fall back to the strongest available evidence instead of pretending the metric is exact.
